About Weston, Connecticut

Population
9,090
Area
19.9 square miles

Situated just north of Westport, is Weston - a picturesque New England town. In the "center" is a small shopping area providing the basics; a hardware store, gas station, food market, bank, and coffee shop. Weston has been successful in maintaining its spacious charm with 2-acre residential zoning. Those who choose Weston like being part of a small community, while still living minutes from all of Fairfield County’s amenities. Residents enjoy an easy commute to Manhattan via the Merritt Parkway, Interstate 95, and the Metro North Railroad. An acclaimed school system is one of the town’s many treasures.

Weston is just four miles from the center of Westport. With a population of 10,037, Weston retains much of its early Yankee flavor and is proud that it only has a handful of traffic lights, one gas station, and two restaurants. There are many antique homes as well as new construction in town. Weston depends on surrounding towns for movie theaters, pizza parlors, and malls.

Almost one quarter of the Town is permanently devoted to open space use. While most shopping opportunities are outside of town, there is one small shopping center for conveniences. There are no condominiums, apartment houses, or corporate offices, and there is no public transportation. The New Haven Line of Metro North provides commuter trains from Westport into New York City. Most residents use JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Airports for airline service.

The Weston Commission for the Arts plans exciting cultural events in Weston each month. The Recreation Department provides for a wide range of activities for residents of various ages. There are church fairs in the Spring and Fall, and the Grange Fair at harvest time. On each Saturday morning from April to October, the Weston Young Women’s Club sponsors a Farmer’s Market. The Hurlbutt Elementary School PTO Memorial Day Fair provides weekend fun and games, topped by the Weston Volunteer Fire Department’s incomparable Memorial Day Parade.

Weston’s school system and facilities are among the finest in the nation. The PTOs are very active and involved with the schools and have a strong record of working hard for educational funding. Weston is also fortunate to be a town in which volunteerism is alive and well. Citizens devote countless hours to the Volunteer Fire Department and EMS squad. The Kiwanis Club, the Weston Historical Society, the Young Women’s Club, the Weston Garden Club, the Saugatuck Garden Club, the Women’s Club, and the League of Women Voters regularly dedicate themselves to improving or beautifying the town.
